Safaris in Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda

I host private trips and small groups in East Africa. You tell me the month you can travel and how many people are coming. I tell you what is realistic: which parks, how many nights, and whether a beach week in Zanzibar or a gorilla permit in Bwindi belongs on the same itinerary.

I live in Tanzania. I know the roads, the airstrips, and the seasons. Write me on WhatsApp with dates. I will answer with a real outline, not a brochure.

Wildebeest and zebra on the Serengeti plains in Tanzania

01. Home

Serengeti

Tanzania

Most first trips start here. You fly into Kilimanjaro or Arusha, sleep a night, then go into the parks.

A solid first week is Serengeti and Ngorongoro. You drive or take a light aircraft into the reserve. Game drives start early. Midday is hot, so you rest or sit at a waterhole. The crater is one long day on the rim and down onto the floor. You see a lot in a small space.

If you have more time, Ruaha and Nyerere in the south have fewer cars. Kilimanjaro is a climb, not a day visit. Plan six to eight days on the mountain if you want the summit. After the parks, Zanzibar is the usual close. One night in Stone Town, then the east beaches for swimming and quiet.

02. Mara and Amboseli

Maasai Mara

Kenya

Nairobi is the usual entry. The Mara is the trip most people ask for. Amboseli is elephants and, on a clear morning, Kilimanjaro on the skyline.

Give the Mara three or four nights. From July to October the herds often push on the river. The rest of the year is quieter and still full of game. You leave camp at first light, come back for a meal, and go out again when the heat drops.

Amboseli is a shorter hop from Nairobi and worth it for the elephants. Tsavo needs more days. Lake Nakuru is a stop if the waterbirds are there. Samburu is drier and a good second visit if you already know the Mara.

03. Forest and river

Bwindi

Uganda

Start in Entebbe or Kampala. Gorilla permits for Bwindi sell out, so we book them months ahead when we can.

The walk in Bwindi can be an hour or most of the day. You spend one hour with the family once the rangers find them. It is steep, wet, and worth the permit if you can walk.

After Bwindi, Queen Elizabeth or Murchison Falls gives you savanna, hippo, and the river. Kibale is chimpanzees if that is the point of the week. Jinja is the Nile if you want a town and water after the forest.

03

Parks then beach

Northern Tanzania, then Zanzibar

Serengeti and Ngorongoro first, then a few quiet days on the coast. This is the trip I recommend if you have ten to fourteen days and you have never been.

Gorilla week

Bwindi, then the river or the savanna

We lock the permits first. Then Queen Elizabeth or Murchison, or a night in Jinja if you want the Nile. I will not promise a gorilla permit I do not have.
